Following rumors of a second chance for a presidential running, Bernie Sanders announced his campaign for the 2020 election on Tuesday, Feb. 19. In 2016, Sanders ran for the Democratic party’s nomination, losing to Hillary Clinton, but winning support of many Americans under 40. The 77-year-old announced on Tuesday his plans for free tuition, a debate on climate change and a plot for the new green deal. Sanders also announced his plans to raise minimum wage and limit corporate spending. Sanders wants to lead the charge to stop the war in Yemen and shed some light on mass incarceration.
“Jobs and education, not jails and incarceration,” said Sanders in his campaign video launched Tuesday.
Bernie Sanders is also passionate about women’s rights along with immigration reform. In 2016, Sanders focused on income and wealth inequality while also refusing to receive most of his funding from direct campaign donations. Although this was his choice, Sanders still received 1 million individual donations from the support of his voters. Sanders calls for change and reform for the government and asks for support from those same voters from the previous election.
“If we are prepared to stand together, there is no end to what the great people of our nation can accomplish,” he said in the video.
