Students at Jones College are given many opportunities to showcase their talents, including the Jones Got Talent show, held Oct. 15 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Jones Got Talent is a show hosted by Student Affairs in the fall semester. This year a total of 17 Jones students showed their talent on stage. The students were judged by Leeanne Womack, Sarah Ishee, Luke Hammonds and Matt McGuffie.

Out of 17 students, three students placed: Travonte Jordan, Teyonna Millsap and Kam Barnett. Travonte Jordan sang a song that he had written himself. This performance led to him winning third place.

“This song was written in my closet,” said Jordan. “It travels deep within my thoughts.”

Second place winner, Teyonna Millsap, sang “On and On” by Erykah Badu, stunning the audience with her vocal skills.

“I placed second, and I feel great,” said Millsap.

Sophomore Kam Barnett won first place singing “Fly Me to The Moon” by Frank Sinatra. Barnett said it was last year’s JGT show that made him enter the one this fall.

“I regretted not competing last year,” said Barnett. “After working the talent show, I felt really inspired.”

Many other vocalists showed their talents throughout the competition. Daniel Baldwin, a sophomore, played the piano while singing “All I Ask” by Adele.

“It was an honor to be able to be on stage,” Baldwin said. “It was very nerve wracking but also a great experience.”

Antarian Chapman came on stage singing “Blister In The Sun” by Violet Femmes.

Chapman said that seeing many of his family and friends there to cheer him on really helped his performance.

“I always love the spotlight,” said Chapman. “Seeing all my friends there to support me warmed my heart.”

Not only was singing displayed on stage this year, but also performances with talented instrumentalists, such as Logan and His Raggedy Ragtime Crew, who performed music on Marimbas. Cody Polk also showed his talent on his electric guitar through playing “Master of Puppets” by Metallica.

Jones College’s talent show is a great example of the many ways talented students can show off their skills. Whether it is performing on stage or being in the audience, Jones Got Talent gives them the opportunity to enjoy themselves.
