Every year in the month of September, Jones College holds elections for Student Government Association positions as well as homecoming court.
Among these positions are president, senator at large, homecoming maids and class favorites. These positions are individual for both the freshman and sophomore class. In addition to these positions, a homecoming queen as well as Mr. and Mrs. JC are also elected.
Marissa Bender was elected homecoming queen this year. Bender said that she would like to use her position to teach students about perseverance.
Bender stated, “No matter how many times you’ve been told no or rejected by other organizations, keep trying and one day you will succeed.”
Wyatt Reid was elected to be Mr. JC. Reid said that it was a huge honor to be able to say that he was Mr. JC. Reid said that with being elected as Mr. JC he hoped to, “inspire other people to believe that if they put their mind and hard work into something they can also achieve a lot of really big things.”
The position for freshman class president was filled by a student from Mendenhall, Mississippi, Karli Welch. Welch said that her goal as freshman class president was to make sure that freshmen on campus got involved.
“Never hesitate to reach out to me. I am very approachable and will get back to you as soon as I can with responses to any ideas or concerns that you may have,” said Welch.
The results for the other elected positions have been emailed to students. Homecoming will be held on October 9, 2021.
