A new restaurant in Ellisville, The Humble Place, is passing expectations and receiving much business.
Plans to build The Humble Place started in 2019, and construction took place in 2020. Owner Amanda Clark said, “I just opened the place up and prayed people would come, but so far, we have far exceeded my expectations.”
The Humble Place’s name is a reflection of the Bible verse 1 Peter 5:6-7, which states: “Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand that he may lift you up. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Clark believes faith, prayer and humbleness are helping her business grow. She also agreed that social media took a huge role in spreading the news of her new business.
The Humble Place is where people can find one of the best home-cooked meals in a comforting environment. The outside of the building has a wrap-around porch with rocking chairs and flowers, reminding customers of times at grandma’s house. On the side of the restaurant is a covered, gated play area for younger children to enjoy.
The Humble Place also has a gift shop where local items are sold, such as the Magnolia candle collection, cider jams and jellies, honey, Simply Southern brand, Baxter and Me photos, children’s items and flags. The Humble Place also sells Ron’s seasoning, which is the seasoning used on the food at the eatery. The gift shop is open 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Clark plans to add live music into the establishment.
Clark has employed over 30 people and is currently hiring. Several of the employees at The Humble Place are high school students.
Due to the pandemic, The Humble Place has set up handwashing and sanitizing stations for customers and ensures there is enough space to social distance and prevent spread of the virus. The seating capacity is 150 people with extra outdoor seating and a meeting room.
The Humble Place has a sellout item that customers love to eat, their bread pudding. The Humble Place is open Monday – Thursday 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Lunch plates are $10 and come with one entree, two sides, bread, and a drink. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., dinner plates are sold for $12 with the same items as a lunch plate, but it also includes a dessert.
