Former student paints for Jones

Jones County Junior College’s Professor Ronald Bishop was watching an episode of the HGTV show “Home Town,” when he saw a beautiful painting on the wall of a house on the show.

He wondered if it might be a painting by a former Jones student, Lindsay Miller.

“Sure enough, the next day someone posts a remark on Facebook with a picture of the painting telling that it was Lindsay’s painting. I wrote her and asked her if she would do a painting for me like the one in the show, and she agreed,” said Bishop.

He hired her to do the painting, and he plans to keep it in the Social Sciences department until he retires, when he may take it home.

Miller, a former SGA president and 2015 Jones graduate, was a communications major at JCJC and then an integrated marketing communications major at the University of Mississippi. She is currently a social media and marketing coordinator at Laurel Mercantile Co. in downtown Laurel, working her dream job.

Miller has been painting since she was a kid, but while at Jones, her family, friends and Jones faculty helped to give her the confidence to paint more and put her work out there. Her painting can be seen hanging in the Social Sciences department on campus.
