LANY’s new album Malibu Nights will heal a broken heart

So you’ve just been through a breakup. Emotions are flowing through your entire being, and you don’t exactly know how to process every sensation that fills your heart and head. LANY’s new album Malibu Nights is the perfect remedy to conveying everything you’re feeling into words. The album takes the listener on the heartwrenching journey of some of the most prominent emotions that accompany a breakup.

The opening song “Thick And Thin” fittingly portrays how surreal the “beginning of the end” makes a person feel. With an upbeat tone that contradicts the dejected lyrics, it sends the album into its first steps of experiencing a breakup for what it truly is.“Taking Me Back” portrays the idea of desperately wanting a second chance alongside “If You See Her” through warm chords and plenty of reverb; on the other hand, pieces like “Let Me Know” emulate the same sensation but through solemn beats with a heart-on-the-sleeve fashion. “Thru These Tears” uses the same fashion and speaks of how although everything in the moment is difficult, everything will be alright in the end.

“Run” is the song of the album that represents the confidence of knowing when you deserve better. It matter-of-factly states that no ex should try to come back, while using the same warm chords, reverb and despondent lyrical fashion as most songs on the album. “Valentine’s Day,” contrary to the typical positive connotation associated with the title, embodies the same solemn and somber vibe and voices the issue of trying to give another person a chance when your heart is still with someone else. The album ends with the song “Malibu Nights,” and it accurately brings to light the deep ache of heartbreak one experiences through losing someone. The song fully encompasses what it means to feel alone, betrayed and broken through smooth piano strokes, and the listener can truly hear the pain in lead singer Paul Klein’s voice. Malibu Nights is a truly well thought-out album meant to be relatable to anyone who has felt true pain with enduring the demise of a serious relationship.
