Attending Jones College offers students many opportunities to expand in their
community of friends. This was the case for current sophomores Jeteric Ellis and Emily Davis.
Jeteric Ellis, a culinary major, entered Jones last year with a limited number of friends. Even though Ellis didn’t know many people, this didn’t stop him.
“I am a very social person, so I was ready to meet new people around campus,” Ellis said.
Through his Culinary Arts classes, Ellis has had the opportunity to show off his cooking
skills while also becoming close friends with his classmates. During his second year at Jones, Ellis’ peers elected him president of The Jones’ Culinary club.
Ellis likes to be involved in organizations around campus, such as the Baptist Student Union. Organizations such as the BSU gives students opportunities like being involved in many different fields of mission work on and off campus. Through this organization, Ellis has made countless connections and was even offered mission work in New Mexico this past summer.
Emily Davis, a current freshman at Jones majoring in Criminal Justice, was nervous
about meeting new people at school. Living on campus has given her the opportunity to meet new friends which has helped her to not be as nervous around people anymore.
“I’m not as scared to talk to people as I first was,” Davis said. “I have met many friends
just by talking to random people.”
Davis has also, like many other students, made friends through her classes. Just by speaking to the person sitting next to her, she has sparked connections with other students.
Davis said living on campus has played a big part in her social life as well. Just being in the dorms has given her the opportunity to form new friendships.
Whether it is classes, sporting events, or clubs, Jones gives many opportunities to make connections. Through these students’ stories, other students can see that they, too, can expand their community at Jones College.
