2020 Grammys offer memorable moments

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards took place Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The show kicked off with Lizzo, eight-time nominee and three-time Grammy winner, performing her two hit singles “Cuz I Love You” and “Truth Hurts.”

The star-studded event, hosted by Alicia Keys, showcased entertainment from stars including Tyler, the Creator, Ariana Grande and the Jonas Brothers. However, the award show was seen as not only a celebration of music but of life.

“We’re going to love together, and we’re going to make sure that we are celebrating the most powerful energy, the most beautiful thing in the world, the one thing that has the power to bring all of us together, and that’s music,” Keys said.

Earlier that day, news of Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s deaths from a helicopter crash, along with six other passengers and one pilot, hit the nation with an unexpected shock. With the Grammys being held at Bryant’s home arena, many of the performers and announcers paid tribute to his legacy.

Host Alicia Keys created an atmosphere of love and care in hopes of bringing the world together during such a difficult time. The emotional night was topped off with two heartfelt performances by Camila Cabello and Demi Lovato.

Camila Cabello moved the crowd by singing her song “First Man” to her crying father in the crowd.

Demi Lovato made her emotional first return since her near-fatal overdose in 2018 singing her new song “Anyone,” which was written merely days before the incident.

New artists were a big hit at the Grammys this year. Lil Nas X was nominated six times and took home two Grammys.

In addition, Billie Eilish swept the night winning five awards out of six nominees, including Best Album, Song, Record and New Artist of the Year.

The Grammys continued its tradition of emotional and celebratory entertainment. For the entire list of award winners, visit https://www.grammy.com/grammys/awards/62nd-annual-grammy-awards-2019.
