On Sunday, March 4, the Academy hosted the 90th annual Oscar awards. This year, the nominees for best actor included Daniel Day-Lewis for “Phantom Thread,” Timothee Chalamet for “Call me by your name,” Daniel Kaluuya for “Get Out,” Denzel Washington for “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” and Gary Oldman for “Darkest Hour.” To many movie fans, it seemed that Daniel Kaluuya was a shoo-in for the award. They were shocked to find out that the award was instead given to Gary Oldman.
While Gary Oldman’s performance in “Darkest Hour” was spectacular, it was nowhere near as fantastic as Kaluuya’s performance in Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.” Across Twitter people from all walks of life voiced their opinions.
Many believe that Kaluuya should have won the Oscar instead of Gary Oldman. Daniel Kaluuya might not have won the Oscar for best actor, but he won the hearts of many with his acting.
