Jones Baseball splits with Coastal Alabama-East

On Feb.18, Jones College basketball would head to Brewton, Ala. to play against Coastal Alabama-East Community College.

In the first game, an eventful first four innings would leave Jones trailing 5-6 for a majority of the game. However, a two-run homer from Gabe Lacy in the 7th inning would allow them to leap into the lead. Those two runs would be the only runs scored after the fourth inning, allowing Jones to take the win 7-6. Lacy would have the most notable day at the plate, going 2 for 3 at the plate with two hits and three RBIs. Pitcher Zach Flaskamp would be credited with the win, allowing only three hits and one run over five innings while also earning five strikeouts.

The second game would not go as well for Jones. Coastal Alabama-East would score 6 runs in the third inning alone, making the score 5-10 and leaving Jones playing catch-up for the rest of the game. Jones seemed like they might rally back in the end, but were ultimately unable to prevail, losing 11-13. Shortstop Tyler Duckworth would go 2 for 2 with an RBI, and having been walked twice, he would have a perfect on-base percentage, allowing him to score four times.

The team plays Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Feb. 25. Students and fans can watch at jcjc.tv or keep up with the box score on njcaa.org.
