The Jones’ women’s soccer team started their spring season off right with the first win of the season against Itawamba’s team at Fulton.
Coaching the women’s soccer team is Head Coach Dolores Deasley, Goalkeeper Coach Grant Adam, and Assistant Coach Tori Brook. The coaches encourage their athletes to strive for greatness every day, whether academically, characteristically or athletically. Danae Fowler is a freshman biology major and plays goalkeeper for the team.
Fowler said, “The excellence I heard of the soccer program at Jones inspired me to come. Great coaches who care to make the player not only a better soccer player but a better person matters too.”
Fowler said her best moment on the team is when they played against Mississippi University for Women and won the game 13-0.
“Together we are like family,” said Fowler. “We have each other’s backs on and off the field. I love those girls and can’t wait to take on the upcoming season with them.”
Fowler, from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, plans to attend the University of Mississippi, where she can continue her soccer journey.
Delaney Cooley from Ellisville is a freshman mechanical engineering major who plays midfield for the team. Cooley, who plans to attend Mississippi State University after leaving Jones, said she is inspired by her sister, who formerly played soccer at Jones and led the team as captain to a winning season.
“My best moment as a team was at Camp Shelby for a bonding trip,” said Cooley. “The obstacle course race was the most fun and a perfect way to bond. My teammates are like family to me. They encourage me every day to be the best person and teammate I can be.”
Overall the team is 6-1, and the next home game will be against Pearl River, at 5 p.m. on April 29. The men’s team are 5-2 overall, and they play immediately after the ladies at 7 p.m.
