NFL TV ratings take a hit

With the super bowl growing closer and closer, many NFL fans are starting to voice their opinions on who their picks are. With such a massive number of football fans out there, one would think that it would be hard to voice and opinion. However, that may not be the case for this season. In fact, the number of viewers has decreased dramatically. The NFL’s TV ratings in 2016 have taken a Cam Newton-like beating.  Sports Business Daily’s figures from the NFL’s Week 13 show that all NFL networks saw reductions in ratings.

Going back to late October, Sports Illustrated reported that Monday Night Football was down 24 percent from 2015, Sunday Night Football was down 19 percent and Thursday night was down 18 percent.  More recently, there has been some discussion of whether the NFL should abandon Thursday night football games.

“With mounting criticism of the quality of every-week Thursday football, scattered suggestions have emerged in recent weeks that the NFL could pull the plug on the experiment,” said Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk. “Those suggestions are stronger than that; per a source with knowledge of the situation, the league will be considering the possibility of ending, or at least limiting, Thursday Night Football.”

As one one can tell, the question is no longer, “who is going to win?” The true question is “Does anyone care anymore?”
