With a 13-3 season score, the Jones softball team has started the season off right. Current Jones softball coaches, head coach Chris Robinson, assistant coach Tori Dew, and assistant head coach Bob Herrington, are the ones who brought the Jones softball team to that winning lead. The last few opponents the softball team has beaten are Hinds College and Wallace State.

Sterling James, a sophomore from Southhaven, is one of four pitchers for the softball team. James said softball is a sport you have to work hard at constantly to get better.

James explained how the coaches are always pushing her teammates and her to be the best version of themselves. Specifically, she said Coach Herrington plays one of the most meaningful roles in her softball life. Herrington has been the assistant head coach for seven seasons and was also the head tennis coach from 1990-99.

“Celebrating with my teammates is one of my best moments, after a great play,” said Sterling.

Each day these women either are on the field or practicing on their own time for the next competition. Their next home game will be March 30 at 5 p.m. against East Central CC.
