The Jones College soccer teams had a good start to the season.

The women’s team started with a win against Delta State with a final score of 1-0. However, the next game against East Central Community College, the team fell behind by 1 point with six seconds left in the game, giving them a final score of 1-2. The women’s team came back strong against Itawamba with a sweeping victory of 6-0. Kaylee Chennault made an impressive rebound in the 79th minute of the game against Itawamba, leading to a score of 5-0.

The men’s team came in strong with a win of 6-0 against East Central with six different players scoring against the Warriors and followed that with another win of 1-0 against Itawamba. No. 5 Jones then hosted Andrew College in men’s soccer, fought hard and ended with a win 2-1. At half time of the game against Andrew College, the Bobcats and Tigers were tied 1-1. Evan O’Leary then delivered a strike that put Jones in the lead, and the men secured their 12th consecutive home win.

With a good season start, both Jones’ soccer teams were ranked #4 in the NJCAA Division II WSOC and MSOC poll. Both teams played against Pearl River: the women’s team won with a score of 3-0, the men’s team fell behind with a score of 0-1.

With a rainy start to the season, the Bobcats ran into weather problems and experienced many delayed games. However, neither team let the weather affect their perseverance that led them to multiple victories. As their season will continue throughout the fall and into winter, the men’s and women’s soccer teams have a bright future ahead. Sophomore, Blake Miller, is excited for the remainder of the season with his team.

“We are going on a chance to win for the 4th time in a row, so it is pretty exciting and another chance to go on to the national tournament,” Miller said. “We have a good squad this year, and I believe we can do it again.”

Jones College soccer will next play September 28 against Holmes at home. Make sure to check out www.jcbobcats.com and JC_Bobcats on Twitter to follow along with game updates about the game schedules.
