On Sept. 25, Jones (6-1) defeated the Southwest Community College Bears (7-1) in Summit, MS, outscoring them 2-1. The Bears came into the matchup undefeated, having outscored their opponents 34-7. Jones had also seen satisfaction in the win column, dropping only one game to rival Pearl River. An unstoppable force was about to meet an immovable object, with both teams exhibiting so much dominance within their schedules. However, something had to give, and it would be Jones who scrapped and clawed in order to come out on top.
Jones entered the game having won six of their seven games, showing their dominance while they did so. Â JC sophomore forward, Thomas Carlile, had been one of the key players for the Bobcats, leading the team in goals at six. Â JC freshman goalkeeper, Callum Harley, had played a big part as well, earning 32 saves and sporting an .800 save percentage. As a unit, the Bobcats have only had two games which were decided by a margin of one point, not including their only loss. However, both games are their most recent, which might hint that they are entering one of the tougher parts of their schedule. The fact that Southwest remained undefeated before the game also supports this idea.
In the first half, it would be Southwest who would be first on the scoreboard, managing to squeak a goal in off of a corner kick. However, with ten minutes left in the game, JC freshman forward, Justis Casey, would race downfield and past the defenders in order to get the tying score. A few minutes later, JC sophomore midfielder, Glen Waters, would be fouled, leading to a free kick from JC freshman midfielder, Cris Rodrigo, that would ultimately decide the game. Rodrigo knocked it into the goal with ease, putting Jones up 2-1. They fended off Southwest from making a comeback within the final minutes, giving Jones their third win in a row.
