JC football wins Miss Bowl

On Dec. 2, Jones Bobcats defeated the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters by a score of 27-7 to win the Mississippi Bowl.

After coming off of a rough loss to East Mississippi in the MACJC Championship, the Jones football team redeemed itself, as they were able to hold EAC to a measly 101 total offensive yards, even earning two fumble recoveries. All 101 of those yards came on the ground, with 68 of them coming on a single touchdown run by running back Keyshawn Lowe. This would be their lone touchdown. As for offense, running back Kalyn Grandberry would only run for 35 yards on 17 carries, but would earn a touchdown while doing so. The Bobcats’ only other offensive touchdown would come off of a 4-yard pass from freshman Fred Barnum to Natorian Watts.

Special teams would be the highlight of the day for the Bobcats. About midway through the third quarter with a score of 13-7, freshman J.D. Rutherford would block a punt that would be returned for a touchdown, helping Jones pull away with the lead. However, it would be Cristofer Thompson who would earn MVP of the game and prove that kickers are people too. He would manage to go 2 for 2 in field goal attempts, making a 46-yarder as well as another from 28 yards. He would also nail 3 PATs with ease.

With this win, the Bobcats have now concluded the season. They finish with a 10-2 record as well as the title of the #5 nationally ranked team. We at the Radionian would also like to wish all sophomores the best of luck in their future endeavors, whether it be continuing their paths of playing football or pursuing other careers.
