The 10th ranked Bobcats finished the 2019 football season at a strong 7-3 overall record and a 5-1 conference record after starting the season 2-2 including an upset against Coahoma Community College. The Bobcats were able to clinch a playoff berth down the stretch by going 5-0 in the MACJC after losing to #1 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Bobcats ultimately fell short in a 17-23 effort to Northwest Community College in the first round of the MACJC Semifinals.
Although the Bobcats were not able to start spring training, there is still a lot of excitement about the 2020 signees.“It was a great signing class,” said head coach Steve Buckley. “We are really excited about this class.”
The Bobcats had holes to fill in key positions due to students graduating, but Coach Buckley made sure to fill those gaps. “We had to go out and sign corners… We lost all four cornerbacks to graduation. The second position was receivers; we lost all receivers except the two that are coming back, so we had to go out and sign five receivers. Running backs…we lost two running backs, and it was important that we signed two running backs.”
The Bobcats inked 26 new players to help make another playoff run. Although the virus has created uncertainties and has intervened in sports, the coaching staff and players will still be prepared when it is time for summer workouts in July.
