Last week, both the Jones baseball and softball teams were placed into two entirely different situations. The Lady Bobcats, currently ranked #1 in the nation, earned a sweep over #9 Copiah-Lincoln Community College. However, the  #7 Bobcats baseball team has been less fortunate, losing five straight games; four of those losses were results of sweeps by highly-ranked Itawamba Community College and East Central Community College.
After ranking as high as #2, the baseball team has experienced some hiccups at a very inconvenient time in the season. While their overall record of 21-7 certainly draws some positive attention, some might grimace at the current conference record of 5-5. Against Itawamba, Jones simply couldn’t drive in runs as they had several hits, earning 10 in the first game which was a 9-4 loss, and 7 in a 7-0 shutout. As for the East Central games, Jones attempted to make a late rally in the first game, but would come up just shy of the win, losing 5-4. Lackluster hitting would be the downfall of the Bobcats in the second game, as they would only earn four runs in a 6-2 loss.
As for the Lady Bobcats, the momentum has continued to snowball as the playoffs quickly approach. They currently own a 25-4 overall record as well as an unblemished conference record of 11-0. Their games against Copiah-Lincoln last Wednesday both resulted in wins, with one being an extra-innings thriller whereas the other was a snoozer that ended in five innings. In other words, it has been business as usual for the women.
