EMCC shows up to play JCJC with half their team?

Jones County Junior College hosted East Mississippi Community College last Thursday. However, only a portion of the team and coaches were able to attend the game due to a prior incident that happened last season.

EMCC played Mississippi Delta on October 22, 2015, and had an incredible lead of 49-0. Only 59 seconds was left in the game when a major fight between the teams broke out. It was shown on Netflix’s “Last Chance U” that one of EMCC’s managers received five stitches during the pre-game after an altercation with a Mississippi Delta player. Later, EMCC’s wide receiver, D.J. Law, was tackled out of bounds in front of the opposing team’s bench in what was seen as an act of maliciousness. After that, both teams retaliated by fist fighting. Some coaches also participated in the brawl.

The fight lasted for about five and a half minutes. Police officers, coaches and officials worked to stop it. The referees and officials then came to the conclusion to disqualify EMCC from the state playoffs, suspend the entire EMCC football team for two games, and, for returning players, the first game of the 2016 football season.

This resulted in only freshmen from EMCC’s football team playing against the Bobcats during the Sept. 1 game on JCJC turf. The JCJC Bobcats won the game 27-25.
