The Bobcat baseball team experienced a rather successful week, earning a sweep in a two-game series on Sunday against Northeast Community College and a split against #16 Hinds Community College.
The Bobcats entered last week ranked as the second-best team in the nation, ranked only behind LSU Eunice Community College (La.), who Jones beat earlier in the season by a margin of 11-4. They also currently hold an impressive record of 21-3 after this week, with their loss against Northeast being their first conference loss of the season. Two of their wins were games that concluded early due to the 10-run rule coming into effect.
On March 24, Jones traveled to Booneville, Miss. to take on a lackluster Northeast team. Despite Northeast sporting a winless conference record, they still managed to give the Bobcats fits late in game one, giving the impression of a possible comeback. However, the game would ultimately end in a victory for Jones as Nettleton native Coleton Ausbern would earn the save, giving Lane Thomas the victory. The score would end 6-3 in favor of Jones, with the second game being much less entertaining as Jones would rout Northeast 13-3.
Last Wednesday’s matchup saw two of the top teams in the nation go head to head in Raymond, Miss. between Jones and Hinds. The Bobcats managed to take the first game by way of a 14-0 beatdown. However, the second game would tell a different story, as a brutal fourth and fifth inning would decide the game. Jones would fall, 9-2.
The Bobcats will look to bounce back this Tuesday against East Central Community College.
