Basketball season is finally tipping off

On Nov. 8, both the women and men’s basketball teams will head to Goodman, Miss. to take on the Holmes Community College Bulldogs.

For the men, this will be their third official contest of the season. By this time, they will be hoping to finally find their groove, as they hope to capitalize off of last season’s 12-11 record. Former freshman forward Malik Henry would lead the team in points per game with an average of 15.6, whereas former sophomore forward Omar Steele would post the highest rebound rate at 5.9. While the assist column didn’t receive much love, it would be the current point guard Michael Williams Jr. who would own an average of 4.5 a game to lead the team.

For the women, they will be playing their first game of the regular season. They will be looking to repeat the astounding season which they had last year, reaching the NJCAA Division I Nationals before finally falling to Trinity Valley Community College (Lubbock, Texas). The Lady Bobcats would also earn the rights to boast a 20-3 regular season record and a nearly flawless conference record, dropping two games to Shelton State Community College (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and one to archrival Pearl River Community College. Former guard and current Arkansas Razorback Alexis Tolefree would put up a nice rate 21.3 points per game.

However, previous seasons don’t define the current one, and both the men and women will set out to establish their own identities this week.
