108 years in the making for the Cubs’ victory

After 108 years of falling short, the Chicago Cubs were victorious in winning the 2016 World Series.

The Cubs started playing in the National Association in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings. The Cubs won back-to-back World Series championships in 1907 and 1908, becoming the first major league team to play in three consecutive World Series and the first to win it twice, but that soon came to an end that next year. The Cubs did not go back to the World Series until 1910, but even then they did not win. They participated in six more World Series but lost each one.

After the Cubs ended their losing streak this year by defeating the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings, 8-7 in game seven at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Missouri, Chicago fans erupted with happiness. The Cubs are the first team to come behind from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series since the Kansas City Royals did it in 1985. Chicago also accomplished that feat by winning the final two games on the road. The last team to do that was the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.
