The state of Pennsylvania is one of the nation’s biggest swing states in the way of voting. State legislators have proposed a re-drawing of the state’s congressional map.
Every 10 years legislators are given the opportunity to ask for a new congressional map. After the Presidential election in 2017, the Democratic minority saw that the congressional map was structured unfairly in the way of the Republicans. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court gave the state two weeks to come up with a revised congressional map. Many people find this gerrymandering case as a way for the Republican party to take unfair advantage of people’s votes. Legislators feel that Republicans are taking the right to vote away from hard-working Americans.
The main focus of the congressional voting map is to ensure people are not being cheated out of their right to vote for what political party they want. The redistricting in Pennsylvania has given an unfair advantage to the Republican party. With the newly revised congressional map being drawn up, hopefully, problems like this will not happen in the future.
