The latest controversy regarding Nike has traveled throughout the internet, causing consumers to discard their Nike products. This is due to a campaign featuring former San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick was featured in a graphic with the words “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
Recently, many companies and consumers alike across the United States have protested against Nike’s campaign. A recent interview with Mississippi’s state police agency revealed a move to boycott Nike. Public Safety Commissioner Marshall Fisher claims they will not support or spend money on “vendors who do not support law enforcement and our military.” Fisher explains that Highway Patrol troopers will no longer be allowed to purchase Nike products for employees. This decision has been supported by Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, stating Fisher has the right to deny business “with a company that pays an individual who has slandered our fine men and women in law enforcement.”
Across the internet, many Nike customers are either supporting or bashing the campaign. Many claim that Nike is using this backlash as good publicity and are waiting to see where it leads.
