On Nov. 6 the U.S. held elections for the midterm. In the state of Mississippi, the results were surprising for some, but completely expected for others.
Republican nominee Roger Wicker won the vote for U.S. Senate. Wicker received a total of 515,131 votes, passing up Democratic candidate David Baria.
The special election for U.S. Senate went to run off. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) will face off against Mike Espy (D) for the senate spot on Nov. 27.
Republican Trent Kelly received 154,447 votes and won the MS 1st Congressional District, surpassing Democrat Randy Wadkins.
Democrat Bennie Thompson won the MS 2nd Congressional District and received a total of 148,977 votes.
Republican Micheal Guest won the 3rd Congressional District with 155,840 votes, beating Democrat opponent Micheal Evans.
In the 4th Congressional District, Republican Steven Palazzo won the election by receiving 133,805 votes and beat his opponent, Democratic candidate Jeramey Anderson.
Currently, in Washington, D.C., the Democratic party holds the House with 223 members, and the GOP follows behind with 197 members. However, the GOP still holds the Senate with 51 members and the Democrats trail behind with 46 members.
