On Tuesday, Sept. 25, the news broke that actor Bill Cosby was going to jail. Cosby was on trial for drugging and assaulting a woman in 2004. Several other women came forward to accuse Cosby of sexual misconduct. Cosby was sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison. Along with his sentence, he was fined $25,000 and was required to cover prosecution costs amounting to $43,000.
Judge Steven O’Neill, the judge for both Cosby trials, said, “Nobody is above the law because of where they live, who they are, wealth, fame, celebrity or even philanthropy… Thirty-four months this has gone on. Your time has come.”
Bill Cosby was an entertainer that many trusted and enjoyed. The accusations against him shocked the entertainment industry; however, the proof was the most shocking of all. No matter who someone is, a sexual assault accusation and trial is a serious matter. The sentencing means another threat has been prevented from harming society.
