In a recent statement, USA Gymnastics said that it is declaring bankruptcy. This action is being taken to quickly settle the many complaints from former gymnasts about sexual abuse from a former doctor.
Larry Nassar, a doctor for USA Gymnastics, was accused in August 2016 of sexual abuse. Nassar was sentenced to 40-175 years in prison by Judge Rosemarie Aquilina.
Along with filing bankruptcy, USA Gymnastics is also dealing with the U.S. Olympic Committee, “looking to revoke the recognition as the sport’s governing body,” according to Axios. The bankruptcy file with halt all depositions in lawsuits filed against the organization.
Instead of filing for bankruptcy to hide any further shame, the organization should come clean and face the accusations. The women that have dealt with these actions should get the justice and settlements they deserve instead of nothing for their efforts.
