SGA to host upcoming spring events

The Student Government Association is a student-led organization that encompasses the ideas of the entire student body.

SGA’s mission is to foster leadership skills, encourage school spirit and advocate for student interests.

Jones College’s SGA works hand-in-hand with Jones faculty to ensure that the desires and needs of students are met.

Emily Flessner is the sponsor for the college’s SGA, and she has worked to build a staff who is dedicated to implementing the principles of SGA on the Jones campus.

SGA President Sophia Bowden said these principles are what drew her in and inspired her to join the organization.

“I saw how it was a great club that included all students, and it allowed me to stay active at Jones and grow many leadership skills, friendships and faculty connections,” said Bowden. “With that came a feeling of gratitude and comfort knowing that I could represent Jones College and my classmates strongly.”

Bowden said the lessons she has learned from SGA have prepared her for a life of service.

“I learned that it takes a great amount of responsibility in representing the student body as sophomore president, but it has been such a rewarding experience,” said Bowden. “I gained some of my greatest friendships from being involved. The connections that I have built will follow me for a lifetime.”

SGA has hosted and been involved in many events around campus this year.

“We have been able to do so much this year,” said President of Freshmen, Addie Thames, explaining that the organization had a booth at Treats in the Streets, participated in homecoming events, held many game nights in the union and hosted the Spring Fling dance.”

“I’m excited for what the future holds with SGA,” said Thames. “Being able to take the ideas of students and work with other officers and faculty to make those ideas a reality is so rewarding.”

The SGA has many events planned as the semester closes. Bobcat Olympics will be held the week of April 15 and the End of Year Splash will be hosted before final exams.
