Jones County Junior College’s art show this month features a traveling art show called the Mississippi Art Colony. Art pieces from the Colony’s numerous members will be displayed Nov. 7-Dec. 17.
The Mississippi Art Colony, organized in 1948, accepts only artists from within the state. The Colony has traveled throughout the state and has relocated its headquarters over the years to places such as Way, Heidelberg, Laurel and Utica.
The artists who are members in the Colony are in charge of creating the art and also choosing where to display it. These members come from different backgrounds, and they participate in the art society to contribute to others through art.
The Colony’s art is displayed in the Eula Lewis Bass Gallery, which is open to the public for free Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
