Movie films on Jones campus

Jones College was recently the movie set for parts of an upcoming film, “Mind Reader.”

“The producers of christianvoices.com approached the college several months ago about using our college as a location for an upcoming movie that they were producing,” said Bruce Smith, Dean of the Arts.

The movie takes place in two time periods, the 1970s and the present day. Jones’ campus is home to many old and new buildings that allow for both periods to be shot in the same location. Some of the scenes involved Jones students.

“There are also some classroom scenes and some other types of scenes that we wanted students for specifically,” said Smith. “What we’ve done is partner with the Baptist Student Union here on campus along with some of the other organizations to provide some student extras.”

The Music Industry program, along with the Cosmetology program, helped behind the scenes of the film as well.

Filming days started on campus in November but were discreet, with only the cast being present. However, the week before Thanksgiving, filming became more noticeable as the crew began shooting in more public areas such as the cafeteria, science building and dorms. Student extras were in some of those scenes. Student Olivia Norwood was an extra for a scene in front of Jones Hall. Her job was to walk around the mound toward the front doors like she was going to class.

“It took about 20-30 minutes to film the scene, which was very short because there was no dialogue,” said Norwood. “I loved being a part of this because I’ve always wanted to be an extra in a movie. Jones gave me the opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do.”

The filming ended in November, and while there is no information about the final details of the movie, Jones will be doing a debut upon release.
