Jones offers financial aid, scholarship opportunities to students

Jones College has many scholarships and financial opportunities for students, allowing them an easier start to success.

Jones College has placed scholarships and financial plans at students’ fingertips, offering them academic, service, career and technical financial opportunities that cover a wide range of majors and programs.

Current Jones freshman Mia Walters has experienced the impacts and benefits of Jones scholarship opportunities and the easy access to Financial Aid.

“Being dual enrolled opened the opportunity of the foundation scholarship to me, which hugely impacted my finances,” Walters said. “As well, Jones counselors picked academic scholarships that benefited me most.”

The foundation scholarships are open to freshmen and sophomores. The scholarship money is donated by alumni from Jones and anonymous donors who want to give back. Jones students can now fill out the foundation scholarship application in their Jones app or on the Jones website.

“This scholarship gives our students such a great chance to succeed. It allows students the opportunity to alleviate their debt.” said Joanna Newcomb, alumni and scholarship coordinator, “I know lots of families might have single parents. This gives those students extra funding for their time here at Jones.”

Students who are awarded this scholarship can go to  the third floor of Jones Hall, where the Foundation and Alumni office is located to sign a “Thank you letter.” These letters show gratitude for the generous amount of money that was given.

This application is available until April 15. For a more in-depth video, you can visit the Jones app for a step-by-step tutorial.

Financial aid is a nationwide program that allows students to receive federal grant money for higher education. Undergraduate students are eligible for these grants based on certain requirements. Jones has several financial aid advisers who are available to provide guidance. Students can find financial aid help and more by visiting Enrollment Services, located in the Terrell Tisdale Library on the first floor.

“The application is now open and opened on October 1 of 2024 for the 2025-2026 school year,” said Taryn Tyree, Financial Aid Solutions Coordinator. “We do recommend get2college.org to help students  with filling out their FAFSA application. This is a nonprofit organization thats whole purpose is to help fill out the FAFSA application.”

While some students might not be eligible for Pell Grant or Federal Grants, Jones financial aid solutions coordinators and enrollment advisors also help in applying for the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant, or MTAG. The requirements for this application are to be a Mississippi resident for one year prior and have at least a 2.5 GPA.
