Freshman Convocation is an event for those who are beginning their first year at JCJC and is a way to celebrate the time that they will spend here until graduation.
However, this year also celebrated the first class that will attend Jones College. The event that was held Friday, Sept. 7 included food and fun for the freshman class and featured a strong speech of encouragement from speaker Andy Andrews, who shared inspiring tales of his youth.
As for the biggest news of the event, JCJC was revealed to have a new name. After over a century of being Jones County Junior College, this change will allow for new history to be made by the current students and students who are yet to come.
Jones College, now abbreviated as JC, will continue forward for many generations after the 2018-2019 school year freshmen.
