Taking steps toward prevention

Every year on Sept. 10, suicide prevention is observed as a way to educate people on the contributing factors that lead to suicide and how to prevent it. Roughly 1 million people per year commit suicide. Suicide is the 13th leading cause of death in the world. In addition, suicide is one of the top leading causes of death for ages 15-24.

College ages are some of the most vulnerable for suicidal thoughts and actions. There are places and people on campus that students can reach out to for help if he or she is experiencing suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety and stress related problems.  Sarah Jones is a counselor on campus who can help individuals that are having suicidal thoughts and actions. Reach out (counselor@jcjc.edu), get help and help others who might be having the same problems.
