Students advised to prepare for the TEAS

Deadlines for LPN applications for the fall semester are quickly approaching. Admission into the program is in August, and the deadline for the August class is April 1.

Jones County Junior College accepts about 40 students for the August class, and the admission requirements include a minimum ACT composite score of 16, TEAS V Test composite score of 50 or more, a minimum GPA of 2.0 on previous college course work, the applicant to be 18 years old prior to the completion of the program and he or she must apply for separate admission to JCJC. To take the TEAS test, one must pre-register and pay a $71 fee to ATI. No fees will be given directly to JCJC for the testing process.

Upcoming testing dates include Feb. 21, 23 and 27 and March 7 and 21 from 4-8 p.m. All students taking the exam must pre-register 24 hours in advance and know that there is a 50-person maximum testing capacity per session. It is approximated that 300 people will want to take the TEAS test, so students are advised not to wait until last minute.

Once accepted, students will be required to maintain an 80 percent average on all attempted coursework and will be required to submit a random drug test prior to the first day of clinical. For more information on how to register for the exam, supplies needed, fees or requirements, students can pick up the Practical Nursing Program Application Packet from the Student Success Center.
