Pocket Museum adds a touch of whimsy for Mississippians

The Pocket Museum in Hattiesburg offers hidden gems to be discovered.

A new place has opened in Hattiesburg for both children and those still a child at heart. This unique “museum” is ever-changing, constantly bringing in a new exhibit for a new experience.

In downtown Hattiesburg, a small museum, hidden in an alleyway, holds a monthly collection of items to discover. From small felt mice to giant figurines made entirely out of yarn, there is always something at The Pocket Museum to explore.

The public has the opportunity to submit items to display in the Pocket Museum. If someone thinks they have the perfect piece for this unique display, they can submit their collection online by following a few simple steps, including sending in photographs of their collection for the museum to review. The steps to this process are on the website located at the bottom of this article.

Families around Hattiesburg have loved the new addition to the city, which is open 24 hours a day.

“I loved it because my kids loved it, so many different exhibits and surprises around each corner, they are already asking me to go back,” said Cassie Cox, a Hattiesburg resident who recently visited the museum.

Since new exhibits appear all the time, visiting this spot cannot get old. Every new collection is a new adventure and another family or friend night out. Some events are even held at the museum, including most recently a glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt.
