Is losing sleep affecting academic performance?

Everyone has heard it. People should get a good eight hours of sleep every night, but how many of us actually get that much? How many times do we stay up writing that paper, cramming for a test, or binge-watching something on Netflix? Chances are, staying up late to study isn’t going to help your grade. It will likely cause your performance in school to suffer, according to psychologytoday.com.

Sleep is extremely important, especially for students. We need adequate sleep to have energy, to be alert, to focus and to remember what we learn in class. Sleeping less makes it hard to function to the best of our abilities. If we aren’t sleeping at night, chances are we are sleeping in class. Instead of staying up late to study, some of the time spent watching TV, napping, or playing on our phones can be put towards studying.

With finals coming up, it’s time to develop some efficient studying strategies and put aside time for what’s really important: sleep.
