The fair is back in town! On Friday, Oct. 13, the 98th edition of the South Mississippi Fair opened at the Laurel fairgrounds next to the Magnolia Center.
There is something for everyone at the fair, which includes a fine arts competition, a junior livestock show, and different show exhibits that guests are welcome to view. Local vendors and food trucks will also be at the fair, so get ready to indulge in deep-fried oreos or give frog legs a try.
The South Mississippi Fair will also provide exciting entertainment, with performances by Craig Campbell, Breaking Glass and Mojeaux. Also available daily is a kids’ family game show, a butterfly encounter, a live shark encounter, a petting zoo and pig races.
As always, a plethora of exciting rides will be at the fair this year including the Twister, the Super Himalaya, the Super Shot, and everyone’s favorite: the Ferris Wheel.
General admission to the fair is $5, and unlimited ride armband costs range from $20 to $30. Kids shorter than 48” get in free every day, and on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, kids under 12 get free admission. The last day of the fair is Oct. 21, so be sure to take an afternoon to stop by to see some cute animals, observe local art, win a teddy bear, ride the carousel and get a corn dog. After all, the fair only comes once a year!
