“The Blind” is a true story showcasing the well-known Robertson family from the long-running reality series, Duck Dynasty. This dramatic movie is a story of redemption set in the swamps of Louisiana. Phil Robertson reveals the truth about his troubled past and the struggles he faced fighting alcohol addiction. After years of Duck Dynasty fans watching Phil Robertson and his wife, Miss Kay, it was a shock to see the ups and downs they endured in the early years of their marriage.
Phil Robertson and his wife were high school sweethearts that lived very different lives growing up. Kay came from an affluent family while Phil’s family life was riddled with alcohol abuse and mental illness. His claim to fame as a teenager was on the football field. Kay fell in love with him and told him to never be ashamed of his family or his past. Phil signed with Louisiana Tech University as quarterback the same year Kay found out that she was pregnant with their first child during her junior year of high school. Even though there was a real possibility of Phil being drafted into the NFL, he gave up football for his love of hunting and a simple life. Even though he lost his football scholarship, Robertson went on to graduate from Louisiana Tech with a masters degree.
After graduating college, Phil received a job teaching English at a local high school in Louisiana. Up until this point, he focused on hunting, fishing and his family. Unfortunately, a coworker of Phil’s, Big Al, became a negative influence, and the two began going to bars regularly. It was not long before alcohol abuse consumed him and drove his family away. Kay remained loyal, but as Phil turned to alcohol, she turned to the church.
Phil eventually hit rock bottom and begged for mercy from the love of his life, Miss Kay. She knew the best thing for him was tough love, so she put stipulations on him returning home. Thanks to the love of a committed wife, and a preacher that was willing to not give up on him, Phil Robertson committed his life to the Lord and vowed to be the husband and father his family deserved. “The Blind” is a movie of redemption and Christian conversion. It chronicles the struggles of a man that witnessed his mother suffer from mental illness and a father that was never present. That same man faced those same demons in his own life but managed to overcome them and build a strong family foundation for generations to come.
