“Moana” brings Polynesian culture to Disney

Disney’s most recent animated film, “Moana,” has taken the box office by storm, earning $81.1 million since its release on Nov. 23.

This movie is based on Polynesian mythology. Moana is the only daughter of the chief on the island, Motunui. When the island’s crops die and fish become scarce, Moana is the only one who can save her people. She sets out to find the demigod, Maui, to set things right. Through their heroic journey together, they manage to save the island.

This movie stars Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

IMDB rated “Moana” 8.2/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gave it 97%.
