Mapping the uncharted: a journey to the silver screen

Fans of the “Uncharted” video game series, which was a PlayStation exclusive until Aug. 17, 2021, are cautiously awaiting the release of a brand new, live-action presentation of an “Uncharted” movie.

“Uncharted”, set to star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan, will follow an up-and-coming Drake on a journey to discover the legendary treasure of El Dorado. Several teasers and trailers can be found online touting the two powerful actors as leads, which sets the stage for a promising delivery of a dynamic performance for fans who may have had concerns.

This adaptation, despite its current momentum, took quite some time to get started. The project had been in development since mid 2009, and due to various issues, including scheduling conflicts, remained off the drawing board until August 2016 when Joe Carnahan agreed to write the latest version of the script at that time.

Shawn Levy was selected to direct by Sony Pictures in October 2016, and the film was in full “pre-production” status. “Uncharted” was not shown as having reached “post-production” status until January 2021, shortly after which casting began. Once all the key players were lined neatly in place, the rest was history. Although Nathan Drake had a slow trek to the silver screen, viewers need to wait no longer. “Uncharted” can be seen Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, exclusively in theaters everywhere.
