Game Review: Baldur’s Gate 3

In a time where current release video games are filled with micro transactions and constant bugs, Baldur’s Gate 3 breaks that mold by coming to you in its full state with barely any game-breaking bug to be found. Baldur’s Gate 3 is an open-world story-telling video game that takes immense inspiration from the tabletop game, Dungeons and Dragons (DnD).

Baldur’s Gate 3, like DnD, encourages players to be very creative and quick-thinking when deciding their course of action, causing the players to come up with a new solution for every problem that arises. In fact, if a player attempts to use the same solution, it will often end in complete failure. For example, sometimes the player may come across enemies that are entirely invisible, or maybe the player will encounter enemies that will petrify the character’s lower body, causing them to have to fight without moving.

As far as the plot goes for Baldur’s Gate 3, the best way to describe it is a very open-ended adventure. The player is given complete control over their own journey. This of course means there are an abundance of different endings to the game’s main quest and side quests. For example, the player needs to obtain a certain item from an ogre. Now the player could go the normal route of doing whatever the ogre says for him to do, continuing the quest in the most normal way, or if the player happens to have made a sizable amount of money by stealing and selling everything not nailed down, they could instead just buy it off of the ogre. Alternatively, if their sleight of hand stat is high enough, they could steal it from the ogre or simply go full murder hobo, a DnD term for not caring about the quest and just rolling your attack dice and kill the ogre. All of these are valid choices and will reward the player with said item.

Baldur’s Gate 3 encourages players to not just play, but instead live the game. Most choices that the player can make will impact the world around them in some way or another and will also progress the story. This means that the player should play the game as if they themselves were a part of the world and truly experiencing all it has to offer.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an amazing game with a beautiful world and jaw dropping story telling. This makes it an absolute must buy for any gamer looking for a fun adventure that will occupy them for hours upon hours.
