Palworld is an up and coming game created by the company Pocket Pair. Since its release in January, Palworld has sold an astounding 25 million copies both PC and Xbox while still being in its beta phase.
In Palworld, your character will be dropped into the world and greeted with two things: one is a grizzled veteran of some unknown conflict; the other is the wide and colorful world of Palworld that makes the veteran seem like he doesn’t belong. The veteran explains that he was a part of an expedition into the island, but is now the lone survivor. He says the “pals” ate the rest of their comrades, making it very obvious that this game is not for the faint of heart. A pal is a mysterious type of creature with abilities that inhabit the world of Palworld.
Palworld’s gameplay can best be described as a mix between Ark Survival Evolved and Pokemon, with other game mechanics scattered around from games like Legend of Zelda. That being said, Palworld does throw it for a loop by making pals act similar to servants once caught, to be used as crafters or resource gatherers. Also, for the dark-minded people out there you can also catch humans which is seen as inhumane in the world’s lore for very good reason.
In Palworld you begin with only the clothes on your back and just the bare minimum in terms of technology. As the game progresses and you catch more and more pals, you will slowly become unstoppable and your legions of workers will be vast and varied. Palworld is a game that gives the player complete and absolute creative freedom in how it’s played. If you don’t want to use pals, you can unlock the ability to build modern firearms. You can also go the pokemon route and say, “Gotta catch em all,” in which case you’re absolutely free to do that. Just make sure you have enough palspheres beforehand since you need to be careful not to actually kill the pal, otherwise it is dead forever.
Palworld is a game ripe with creativity and adventure for any type of gamer. In truth, Palworld is a game that a person will always have a hard time describing to someone while making any sense. The best way to fully understand what Palworld is about is to simply give it a try. I personally recommend the game for the sheer freedom it gives the player in quite nearly every aspect.
