AlunaGeorge releases second album, “I Remember”

An album cover from Aluna George.

The British duo of Aluna Francis and George Reid released their second album in three years Sept. 16. The album “I Remember” is an expected follow-up of their first album, “Body Music.” It features tracks with Reid’s signature dance hall beats and Francis’s silky vocals. The duo balances a 90s influence with a robotic vibe. The combination is an evolutionary step toward the future of pop music.

The songs in “I Remember” are not only post-modern party anthems but are filled with lyrics laced with Francis’ view on social issues like sexual consent and emotional brutality.

In the single “Mean What I Mean,” Francis clearly spells out her agenda of retaining control in any social encounter. “I mean what I mean when I say so, not tryna be mean when I say no, so don’t play a fool and twist my rules,” sings Francis over transcending synth and beats.

“I Remember” may not be the breakthrough album “AlunaGeorge” expected as it did not crack the iTunes Top 100 upon release, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

“I Remember” is now available for download on iTunes and Spotify.
