After a tough loss last year against Holmes in the state semi-final game, the head Women’s Soccer Coach Dolores Deasley and Assistant Coach Tori Brook knew they had work to do on the recruiting trail.
“We suffered three massive set backs with season-ending injuries to three of our starting 11, so that was a tough blow,” Deasley said. “Ultimately we did not have enough depth in our squad to carry us through, and it was important that we rectified that situation going into 2020.
“I see tremendous potential in our freshman class,” said Deasley. “There is so much athleticism and talent within this group. Most of these girls have played with great clubs and under some quality coaches, so they have a strong understanding and knowledge of the game. There is a lot of versatility within the class as well, which I love. I am ready for the season to get started.”
Even though the coronavirus has caused many setbacks and obstacles, Coach Deasley has continued to trust in her school and her girls.
“The virus has certainly put a spanner in the works, but we remain optimistic,” she said. “The health and safety of our athletes, staff, campus, and community are first and foremost. The girls are working hard on and off the field for right now, and we are happy we get to do what we love, taking it one day at a time.”
Despite the pandemic, the Lady Bobcats continue to grind on and off the field so they can reach for a national championship. Deasley said her biggest goal is to “develop our young women both on and off the field and add to our trophy cabinet.”
