FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, is a club for high school students to participate in business-related events and gain experience for a business career. Jones’ Phi Beta Lambda is the college equivalent of FBLA. David Ray is the PBL adviser at Jones and is at the head of hosting the annual conference.
The conference is a competition of the FBLA students that tests in areas such as accounting, marketing and economics. The conference also hosts a public speaking and job interview contest. The top winners from this district competition will progress to state in April.
Jones will host the conference on Thursday, Feb. 21. Over 700 students and 50 advisers are expected to attend. While competing at Jones, the students will have an opportunity to explore a bit of the campus and see the insides of a few buildings and classrooms.
This will be PBL’s biggest fundraiser and the proceeds will go towards travel expenses for members to compete in their own district competition at the collegiate level.
