JCJC newspaper and yearbook staff visits WDAM

Students from the Radionian and The Lair paid a visit to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and the WDAM TV news station in Moselle on Feb. 6 to learn about journalism behind the scenes.

At USM, the group of students learned about the opportunities that come with enrolling as a student of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism. Dr. David R. Davies, professor and director of MCJ, said that it was important for the students to know what they want to do with their majors and find where they belong at, hopefully, USM.

After receiving a tour of the student media and broadcasting areas, the group of JC journalists toured WDAM and spoke with many staff members like Multimedia Journalist Quametra Wilborn,  News Director Galean Stewart, Reporter Blair Ledet, and Sales Manager Andrew Givens.

The staff of The Radionian and The Lair were able to see the reporters on the job and witness live interviews as well as the master control room where the technical directors make sure that the live broadcast moves along smoothly.  While there is plenty of action on campus, it is important to remember what affects students off campus as well.  Check out The Radionian’s Instagram @thejcjcradionian for more pictures and updates on events like this one.
