Jones tennis takes on East Central

On Wednesday, both the men and women’s tennis teams traveled to Decatur to take on the East Central Community College Warriors to open up their seasons.

The men are coming off of two back-to-back subpar seasons, finishing below .500 in 2018 with a record of 7-11 and just above .500 the year before with an 8-6 record. However, their games in the fall give reason to be optimistic, with players such as sophomores Daniel Taneous and Noel Monsalve putting on dominant performances. This is especially true in singles action, as neither would drop as much as a set. With the two leading the charge, the team hopes to exceed all expectations this season and put the past behind them.

When it comes to the women, they are no stranger to success. They are coming off of a 15-3 championship season, winning the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament. The program has also posted at least nine wins every year since 2015, and it seems likely that they’ll continue to do so. They were undefeated in the fall as a team, with their closest score coming from their meeting with Meridian Community College. Sisters Ariadna and Mireia Jordan of Barcelona, Spain would prove to be a dynamic duo indeed, as they would remain undefeated through doubles action throughout the fall.

After the meeting Wednesday, the women and men have until Feb. 12 for their next match up at Holmes Community College. It’s the dawn of a new season, and both teams look to create their own momentum.
